Architecture: Loft in the Mountains

Originally built in 1968, this mountain home sits on two acres in the Foothills of Boulder County. The remodel concept was inspired by the desire to create a Loft in the Mountains while achieving a unique fusion of industrial and organic in design aesthetic. The budget was tight, so the design challenge became one of using regular materials in an unusual way.

A language of metal cladding was developed for the exterior, set in contrast to the clear aluminum storefront windows. A timber and steel porch element extends the lines of the home out into the landscape, softening the fa├žade and providing a shaded exterior space. Exterior materials are taken inside and used in a more refined way, resulting in a truly unified composition that embodies Mountain Modern.
